“I came to Austin TX in 1971 where I worked for a cosmetic company for one year. And at time there was a place here called the Armadillo World Headquarters. I went in there, it was a cool funky place, but you felt like you were part of something. It was indoors, there were old funky couches there, you could sit on a rug. Chuck Mangione would play, or Boz Scaggs, or somebody and it was really really cool. But after that, it felt like there was no place where you could feel like you were part of the Austin Music Scene. This was built so not only could you feel like you were part of the ecological scene, but not only can you be hanging out in the outdoors, but the artists that come here can be part of it too in this little area right here (the cabins in “The Glenn” which serve as the Green Rooms for visiting artists.) I hope to see you guys here at many many events. My wife and I moved here 11 years ago. A lot of people don’t realize that we are residents of Texas and spend a majority of the year here. We picked Austin Tx for family values. We looked over the whole world, and even though are companies are everywhere from Beverly Hills to Zurich Switzerland, we thought “Where do we want to raise our son?” and we said Austin TX. From August through May, we communicate with the world from Austin. We leave in the summertime to go to another one of our homes, to handle our business in other countries. But it’s a beautiful place, a good place to bring up a kid. Our son is 14 years old right now, John Anthony, and he’s a straight A student, honest as can be, and is an unbelievable athelete. It feels really good, we’ve picked a great place. This is a great place to bring your whole family to concerts, it’s really proper.”
